Assessing the role of the common yoga protocol in regulating blood pressure among school students

AUTHOR(S): Harendra Pratap Singh
ABSTRACT:
This study assessed the role of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) in regulating systolic and diastolic blood pressure among school students. Sixty male students aged 14-17 years from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, were randomly divided into an experimental group (n=30) undergoing 8 weeks of CYP training (6 days/week) and a control group (n=30) maintaining regular activities. Blood pressure was measured pre- and post-intervention using sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Descriptive statistics and ANCOVA (p≤0.05) via SPSS 26.0 analyzed the data, confirming homogeneity of variance. Results showed no significant differences in systolic (pre: control 117.57±3.39 mmHg, treatment 118.27±3.29 mmHg; post: control 118.13±4.65 mmHg, treatment 118.23±3.87 mmHg; F=0.042, p=0.839) or diastolic blood pressure (pre: control 77.03±3.78 mmHg, treatment 77.67±3.26 mmHg; post: control 77.73±3.20 mmHg, treatment 77.33±3.46 mmHg; F=0.185, p=0.669) between groups. Despite yoga's established benefits in other populations, CYP yielded insignificant effects here [Hagins et al., 2014][Cramer et al., 2025].
