Theoretical foundations of yoga: Exploring the interplay of body mind and consciousness in classical texts

AUTHOR(S): Km. Priyanka, Kuldip Kumar, Vinita Bajpai Mishra and CP Singh Bhati
ABSTRACT:
Yoga, though often practiced as a physical discipline today, is deeply rooted in theoretical and philosophical traditions. Ancient scriptures like the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and Upanishads describe yoga as a profound system for self-realization and inner transformation. This research paper aims to explore the theoretical framework of yoga by analysing key concepts such as the Citta-V?itti-Nirodha (control of mental fluctuations), Pancha Kosha (five sheaths of existence), and the Trigu?a theory (three qualities of nature). These ideas form the core structure of classical yoga and provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the body, mind, and consciousness.
