ABSTRACT:
The main purpose of this research article is to explore the effects of Om Jap Dhyan on mental health issues-specifically anxiety, depression, stress, and emotion regulation-among elderly individuals and is to model the statistical results in the form of first order differential equation. The Om Jap Dhyana program has been running since 2019 during the COVID-19 pandemic in the evening virtually through zoom by Om Jap Dhyan Samiti under the guidance of Patanjali Yog Samiti, Lumbini Pradesh, Nepal, it integrates three forms of meditations derived from Patanjali’s Yog Darshan: Om Meditation (Samadhi Pad, Sutra 27), Music Meditation (Samadhi Pad, Sutra 35), and Pran Meditation (Sadhan Pad, Sutra 51). A total of 50 participants (25 males, 25 females) aged 50-70 years were engaged in a daily 40-minute session for one month. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS) and Emotional Intelligence Questions (EIQ) were used as pre-post measures. Results revealed significant reductions in anxiety (t = 15.86), depression (t = 10.55), and stress (t = 14.25), alongside significant increases in emotional regulation (t = -22.46) and p<.001 for each variable. These statistical findings were further modeled in the form of first-order differential equations. This study highlights Om Jap Dhyan’s potential as a complementary therapeutic intervention for mental health in elderly populations and its philosophical alignment with the path of Samadhi and Kaivalya.
