Ancient wisdom, modern healing: A comprehensive review of Yoga’s systemic benefits

AUTHOR(S): Shrikant, Rahul Kanojiya, Yogendra Sharma and Abhishek Singh
ABSTRACT:
Yoga, an ancient discipline originating in India, has emerged as a globally recognised mind-body practice that uniquely fosters overall equilibrium within the body and mind through a combination of physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. This article synthesises evidence from various studies to demonstrate how yoga’s holistic approach benefits diverse physiological systems, including respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, psychological, digestive, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, and immune functions. By promoting physical strength, flexibility, and balance, modulating the autonomic nervous system and neurohormonal pathways, reducing stress, and fostering mental well-being, yoga offers comprehensive and interconnected health improvements. The review highlights specific mechanisms of action and concrete benefits, underscoring yoga's valuable role as a complementary therapeutic intervention.
