Integrating evidence-based teaching in yoga and ayurveda: Bridging tradition with modern pedagogy

AUTHOR(S): Vijender Singh and Sapna Ratan Shah
ABSTRACT:
The convergence of traditional wisdom and modern scientific methodology is pivotal in contemporary education, particularly in the fields of Yoga and Ayurveda. This paper explores the integration of evidence-based teaching approaches within these ancient disciplines to enhance their credibility, efficacy, and pedagogical effectiveness. By incorporating empirical research, digital learning tools, and interdisciplinary collaboration, educators can refine traditional teaching methods to align with contemporary academic standards. The findings of this study highlight that digital learning tools, research-based curricula, and blended learning strategies significantly enhance student engagement and knowledge retention. Case-based learning and collaborative feedback mechanisms further contribute to improved educational outcomes. However, resistance from traditional practitioners and limited research availability pose significant challenges to modernization. Addressing these barriers requires a structured approach that bridges traditional wisdom with contemporary research methodologies. This study reviews current literature, evaluates the benefits and challenges of integrating evidence-based teaching in Yoga and Ayurveda, and proposes a framework for implementing such an approach in higher education and professional training. Future research should focus on developing standardized educational frameworks and expanding the database of clinical trials and empirical studies to strengthen the scientific foundation of Yoga and Ayurveda education. By adopting an evidence-based approach, these disciplines can gain broader acceptance and accessibility within the global academic and healthcare communities.
