AUTHOR(S): Sukanya Rawat and Dhananjoy Shaw
ABSTRACT:
The aim of the study was to determine reliability and tester’s competency in regards to selected skinfold measurements of women sportspersons. Three hundred women sportspersons aged 18 to 25 years were selected as the samples of the study which were selected from NCT of Delhi, India, adopting random sampling method. The samples selected had participated atleast at state level championships in one of the following games and sports namely athletics, basketball, football, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball and yoga. The three readings of height, weight and each landmark namely chin skinfold, cheek skinfold, biceps skinfold, triceps skinfold, mid-axilliary skinfold, forearm skinfold, subscalpular skin fold, skinfold at 10th rib, abdominal skinfold, suprailliac skinfold, supraspinale skinfold, medial thigh skinfold and medial calf skinfold of both left and right side were measured using Harpendon skinfold caliper as per the literature (ISAK). The three readings of each landmark were analyzed using pearson’s coefficient of correlation, cronbach’s alpha, and ANOVA. The findings of the study concluded that the test-retest reliability of the skinfold measurements was excellent at both sides (left and right). Also, the internal consistency of the skinfold measurements found to be excellent for both the sides (left and right). The analysis of variance strongly supports excellent reliability of the skinfold measurements for both sides (left and right). Hence, proving excellent reliability and tester’s competency in regards to above measurements of skinfold.
