AUTHOR(S): Dr. Praveen Kumar TK and Dr. A Mohammed Shafeek
ABSTRACT:
This paper provides a focused discussion on the crucial role of cognition and neuroscience in understanding, predicting, and potentially enhancing elite sports performance. Athletes rely on their ability to predict how events will unfold based on their opponents' movements, using these predictions to improve the speed and accuracy of their decisions. Over the past few decades, research has made significant strides in uncovering how athletes' brains learn and adapt, often utilizing Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to observe blood flow in different brain regions in near real-time. With advancements in neuroscience, scientists are now developing software and tools, such as iPads, to harness the brain's hidden potential. Some of the world’s top teams and athletes are leveraging this cutting-edge technology to push the boundaries of human performance and gain a competitive edge. Researchers are also uncovering methods to provide coaches with valuable insights into unlocking the brain's secrets, potentially revolutionizing sports forever. The paper also details various equipment used to enhance cognitive abilities in sports, emphasizing their impact on athletic performance.
